Remote controls for doors and gates and environmental issues

Article published on 11.01.23 and modified on 21.02.23

Are you aware of the environmental issues surrounding the batteries and packaging of your remote control ?
In this article, we would like to explain the various issues surrounding these transmitters, which are still indispensable in your daily life.

Let's start with some figures :
72% of French people recycle their household packaging. Paper, cardboard, plastic, steel and aluminium packaging represent approximately 20 kg of recycled packaging. (source: CITEO) In 2021, packaging recycling rose by 3 points compared to 2020.

At Domobip we are aware of the issues at stake and wish to provide you with information on this subject.

I. The measures proposed in recent years by some manufacturers

The QR CODE

More and more present in your daily life, we find for example the QR Code as an alternative to the paper menu in restaurants. With a simple scan on your phone, an interface opens up and you can virtually flip through the menu.

This is also the case for popular remote control brands in France such as Nice, v2 and Beninca. These European market leaders have replaced the paper instructions for use with a QR code to access the dematerialised guide.

Indeed, this QR Code available on or inside the packaging replaces dozens of paper pages with instructions written in several languages.

If some people are currently doubtful or confused by the absence of instructions with the product, this is undoubtedly a habit that should disappear in the years to come.

The QR code acts as a dematerialised notice and replaces the paper notice.

Incentives for recycling

Don't forget to recycle the packaging when you receive your product. To avoid any mistakes, look on the packaging and spot the Triman logo: This will now tell you what to do: Yellow bin for most plastic and cardboard packaging; Container, voluntary shop or community donation for textiles; Green bin for glass etc

The Triman symbol, which will be present on the majority of packaging by the end of 2023, will guide us precisely on what to do

II. The case of lithium batteries

Batteries are still an important part of our lives, and remain a problem we have to deal with.

A used battery should not be thrown away in your rubbish bin, but put in a special sorting bin which you can find at the entrance of some supermarkets for example.

This symbol always appears on the packaging of battery-operated products.

What alternative is there for controlling doors, gates and shutters without using a battery ?

Avidsen is known for its motorisations for garage doors, gates and roller shutters. But it is also known for its high-quality home automation products.

Indeed, there are products that allow you to control your gate, your garage door or your wired roller shutter with a wifi module: Avidsen HomeGate (for garage doors or gates) and Avidsen HomeShutter (for wired roller shutters). These two products, whose price is more than affordable (knowing that they are home automation products), allow you to interact with your door, gate or shutter thanks to the Avidsen Home application (available on App Store and Google Play).

Note that these modules are only compatible if you are equipped with an Avidsen motorisation.
